What’s Due End of September?
Note that Sept 30th falls on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal public holiday. So the Sept 30th due dates below fall to the next business day, in this case, Oct 1st. Here are some end of September due dates that may apply to your business:
If you are incorporated, and you owed greater than $3k in corporate Income Tax for your previous fiscal year, then you are required to pay installments for the current year on the last day of every month. September 30th is the due date for the September Corporate Tax Installment.
Though there are no other standard items due at the end of this month, be aware that if your Sales Tax filing is monthly, August's GST/HST filing and remittance is due on September 30th. If your Sales Tax quarterly filing is on a different schedule because of a corporate fiscal year end date that is not standard, the GST/HST for a quarter June to August would be due September 30th. Also, if your Corporate Fiscal Year End is March, your Corporate Tax Return is due 6 months after your Fiscal Year end (September 30th). If your Corporate Year End is July, the Income Tax Payable is due 2 or 3 months after the Fiscal Year End; either due end of September or end of October, depending on your corporation. Check in with your accountant to find out more about your corporate tax due dates specific to your corporation.
My Three Favorite Resources for October!
Examining Assumptions; Accounting words people say that look solid but are actually squishy: What even is "Accounting"? Is it Tax or is it Bookkeeping? And to that question, what even is bookkeeping? When you ask if the accounting practitioner provides bookkeeping and they say 'yes', are they all offering the same thing? Repeatedly, I see certain accounting terms tossed around as if we all agree on what they mean, but over my professional experience, I've found out we don't even know that we're all saying different things. So, I've started a type of 'vague terms glossary' to try and combat that!
E-commerce Accounting Update 2026: If you work with Shopify, Amazon, or other online sellers, this practical webinar will bring you up to date on some of the most important changes affecting your e-commerce clients in 2026. Join e-commerce accounting specialists Teresa Slack, CPB and Connie Smith, CPB on Oct 8th as they simplify three topics that continue to create confusion for accounting professionals: Managing complex multi-currency PayPal accounts, Understanding Shopify's Shop App & the Marketplace Facilitator Tax challenges it creates, and Navigating Canada's Simplified GST/HST rules for international suppliers.
BDC Small Business Week: It runs October 19 to 25 this year, online and in person, and you don't need to be a BDC client to attend. It's also local. In my own hometown, the Business Advisory Centre Durham has put together a Durham Region list that includes a hands-on SOPs and process mapping workshop on October 21 and a Greater Oshawa Chamber networking meetup on October 22. For a local in person event near you, search "Small Business Week 2026" with your city name, or check your local chamber of commerce or board of trade.

What due dates are coming up in October?
Now’s the time to prep your October Calendar! #BeThatBusiness that is organized! Here are some October due dates that might affect your business. Note that Oct 31st is a Saturday in 2026, and Federal due dates are moved to the next business day, November 2nd.
Thanksgiving in Canada is observed on the second Monday of October (October 12th in 2026) and is recognized as a statutory holiday in all Canadian jurisdictions except in PEI, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
If you have employees, October 15th is the due date for your payroll source deductions relating to September's payroll if you are a regular remitter.
If you have employees, then you likely are registered for provincial Workplace Insurance (WSIB/WCB), and each province sets its own schedule. In Quebec, CNESST premiums are paid to Revenu Québec along with your source deductions, so monthly remitters pay by October 15th. Nova Scotia's monthly remitters are also due by the 15th. In BC, quarterly premiums for July to Sept are due October 20th. The filing and remitting of WSIB in Ontario for most small employers is on a quarterly schedule, and the premium for the earnings paid to employees July to Sept is due on or before Oct 31st. Everywhere else, premiums follow the instalment plan or statement your board sends you, so check your account for your due date.
If your GST/HST is quarterly, and falls on the standard quarters, then the third quarter (July to Sept), is due to be filed and paid on or before October 31st.
If you are in a province that has PST, make a note of what your PST due date is. It may also be quarterly like the GST, but it's not always due on the same day. In Manitoba, PST (RST) is due on the 20th, so a July to Sept quarterly return is due October 20th. Saskatchewan is also the 20th if you file on paper, or the end of the month if you file and pay online. BC's PST is due at the end of the month following the period.
Some industries have their own filings on top of GST/HST and PST. For example, if you offer hotel or BnB accommodations, you may be in a jurisdiction that has MAT (Municipal Accommodations Tax). If you sell liquor, tobacco, or fuel, your province may have a separate tax return for that too. These are sometimes due monthly, sometimes due quarterly. If yours is quarterly, the July to Sept filing may be due in October.
If you are incorporated, and you owed greater than $3k in corporate Income Tax for your previous fiscal year, then you are required to pay installments for the current year on the last day of every month. October 31st is the due date for the October Corporate Tax Installment.
Though there are no other standard items due at the end of this month, be aware that if your Sales Tax filing is monthly, September's GST/HST filing and remittance is due on October 31st. Also, if your Corporate Fiscal Year End is April, your Corporate Tax Return is due 6 months after your Fiscal Year end (October 31st). If your Corporate Year End is August, the Income Tax Payable is due 2 or 3 months after the Fiscal Year End; either due end of October or end of November, depending on your corporation. Check in with your accountant to find out more about your corporate tax due dates specific to your corporation. Check out CRA's "Quick Reference Guide" for more information.
