What’s Due End of September?

Note that Sept 30th falls on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal public holiday. So the Sept 30th due dates below falls to the next business day, in this case, Oct 1st. Here are some end of September due dates that may apply to your business;

  • If you are incorporated, and you owed greater than $3k in corporate Income Tax for your previous fiscal year, then you are required to pay installments for next year on the last day of every month. September 30th is the due date for the September Corporate Tax Installment.
  • Though there are no other standard items due at the end of this month, be aware that if your Sales Tax filing is monthly, August's GST/HST filing and remittance is due on September 30th. If your Sales Tax quarterly filing is on a different schedule because of a corporate fiscal year end date that is not standard, the GST/HST for a quarter June to August would be due September 30th. Also, if your Corporate Fiscal Year End is March, your Corporate Tax Return is due 6 months after your Fiscal Year end (September 30th). If your Corporate Year End is July, the Income Tax Payable is payable 2 or 3 months after the Fiscal Year End; either due end of September or end of October, depending on your corporation. Check in with your accountant to find out more about your corporate tax due dates specific to your corporation.

My Three Favorite Resources for October!

The first of these October Resources are time sensitive: October 2nd is a couple days away!

  1. Build a Better Business Plan (That actually works): 82% of businesses don’t fail from a lack of effort — they fail from a lack of clarity. If your business plan looks good on paper but your bank account tells a different story, this free 90-minute Masterclass lead by Tanya Hilts On October 2nd is for you!
  2. Paying Employees vs. Contractors: Misclassifying workers can lead to penalties, so understanding the distinctions is crucial for compliance and cost management. This Blogpost from Paytrak does an excellent job listing out the checklists that can help you stay compliant with your workers!
  3. Mahican Song: Calming Soundtracks can be the backdrop of productivity, and Mynoise has the best and most thoughtful selection by far. Stéphane's most recently published sound generator is perfectly timed for this September 30th National Day for Truth and Reconciliation! The Mohicans, or Mahicans when pronounced more authentically, were the Muh-he-con-ne-ok: the People of the waters that are never still. During a residency at the Kripalu Center in Lenox, Stéphane had the privilege of recording Standing Eagle (Shawn Stevens), a Stockbridge–Munsee Mohican, who shared a traditional vocal performance. His voice, blended with the sounds of rivers, wind, and birds, became a song of reconnection—honoring the land, the ancestors, and the balance between humans and nature.

What due dates are coming up later in October?

Now’s the time to prep your October Calendar! #BeThatBusiness that is organized! Here are some October due dates that might affect your business:

  • Thanksgiving in Canada is observed on the second Monday of October (October 13th in 2025) and is recognized as a statutory holiday in all Canadian jurisdictions except in PEI, Newfoundland, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
  • If you have employees, October 15th is the due date for your payroll source deductions relating to September's payroll if you are a regular remitter.
  • If you have employees, then you likely are registered for provincial Workplace Insurance (WSIB/WCB). WCB in some provinces is due monthly, and on the 15th. The filing and remitting of WSIB in Ontario is on a quarterly schedule and the premium for the earnings paid to employees July to Sept is due to be filed and remitted on or before Oct 31st.
  • If your GST/HST is quarterly, and falls on the standard quarters, then the third quarter (July to Sept 2025), is due to be filed and paid on or before October 31st.
  • If you are incorporated, and you owed greater than $3k in corporate Income Tax for your previous fiscal year, then you are required to pay installments for next year on the last day of every month. October 31st is the due date for the October Corporate Tax Installment.
  • Though there are no other standard items due at the end of this month, be aware that if your Sales Tax filing is monthly, September's GST/HST filing and remittance is due on October 31st. Also, if your Corporate Fiscal Year End is April, your Corporate Tax Return is due 6 months after your Fiscal Year end (October 31st). If your Corporate Year End is August, the Income Tax Payable is payable 2 or 3 months after the Fiscal Year End; either due end of October or end of November, depending on your corporation. Check in with your accountant to find out more about your corporate tax due dates specific to your corporation. Check out CRA's "Quick Reference Guide" for more information.
